Project TOTO helps bloggers spread message of poverty reduction

Project TOTO is ActionAid Australia's attempt to give poverty a voice through social media. Social media is media which designed to be shared through social interaction wherhter by blogs,
ActionAid plans to establish a number of blog outposts in poor communities around the world, with locals trained to use free social media tools such as
The first blog outpost occured in Tanzania in June 2009.
the project
The project aims to provide a new through which people living in poverty can express themselves and raise awareness of their rights. Another element is giving Australians an intimate insight into the lives of people living in poverty.
ActionAid’s upcoming outreach blog will be in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.
the bloggers
Dhaka is the largest city in Bangladesh and has an enormous slum popuation.
The two outreach bloggers selected -an English teach from UNSW Joel Katz and Sharna Bremner ,a Bachelor of Development Studies student will travel between May and June 2010 for 1-2 weeks.
Project TOTO had over 52 nominees and 12 finalists and applicants were set three challenges to ensure suitability.
