New changes on GenerousParty.com: Donate as much as you like to any charity of your choice
Dear Parent, Charity and Interested Citizen
As many of you may know we launched Generous Party in February 2010 and received considerable media exposure right across Australia. Our
However we also received some valuable feedback.
Many parents said that they did not like being restricted to having to support just five charities that were listed on Generous Party and they queried as to why they could not make their own choice. Many parents felt that although the loved the concept of GenerousParty.com, not being able to nominate a charity of their choice was a deterrent to them using the website.
Initially we toyed with the idea of listing more charities on the site but then were concerned that this would be an administrative nightmare from our point of view not to mention even more confusing for parents and children. Which charity to support? Who
was more needy? The list goes on.
We were also aware that many people currently have a charity or two that they currently support and are passionate about.
Changes made
We needed a solution to address these concerns and the steps are a response to much of the feedback we received. As such we have instigated the following changes effective immediately:
- Parents and the birthday child will still need to indicate on their invite one charity they would like to support but now after deduction of the administration fee the Parent of the birthday child will receive 100% of the online gift contributions and from this can donate as much as they like to a charity or charities of their choice.
- Charities will no longer be profiled on Generous Party as a Generous Party Nominated Charity. Every charity in Australia can now potentially benefit from being selected as a nominated charity on GenerousParty.com
- Parents and the Birthday Child will now be the ones who decide after the pooled online gift contributions are received by them, who they would like to donate to and also how much they would like to donate. party Hosts can choose to support any charity that they wish and will need to use their discretion in choosing which charity to support, as they would need to do when make a 'normal' donation.
We have suggested to parents they may still like to consider giving the charity /charities of their choice 50% of the online contributions from their childs guests, but we realise it is up to parents and the birthday child to decide how much they would like to donate to the charity or charities of their choice.
We still will have a section on the website called "Featured Charities" and will use it to profile charities we come across that are doing fantastic work. If you have a favoured charity and you would like to see their work profiled on the site please contact the
charity and let them know about GenerousParty.com.
We look forward to the journey ahead and are even more excited about the potential to help parents and children help even more causes than ever before.
