This Christmas Australian children indulged as charities get left behind - Kmart Christmas Giving Index

This Christmas Australian parents will spend an average of $235.18 per child this Christmas, an increase of 3.3 percent from 2009.
However unfortunately this year the Kmart Christmas Giving Index found that charities can expect fewer donations as 20 percent of Australians indicated they will donate less this year.
The research, conducted among 1,027 Australians on behalf of the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, found Australian parents plan to spend an average of $235.18 on each of their children this Christmas, up from $227.72 last year.
Sadly almost two thirds (64 percent) of Australians indicated the costs associated with Christmas impact the amount of money they donate to charity. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math. More spent on often unwanted gifts for Australian children means less spent on children in real need.
